Active Sitting – New office chair.

I’ve heard conflicting reports about office chairs. But there seems to be some momentum to what is called “Active Sitting”. This usually means sitting on something that encourages you to move, bounce, roll… etc. while you work.

I’ve adopted trying out an exercise ball as an office chair. I’ve already noticed that it encourages better posture while I am using it. It’s much more fun than the standard chair too. But it is still going to take time to get used to this method of sitting.

I sit for a few hours each day writing, reading and working on presentations. This adds up throughout the week. I needed something that would also allow me to move freely and even be encouraged to get up and move around. Lately, when I have been going for walks with my wife, I have been experiencing lots of lower back pain. Partly because of “fat blogger” syndrome which seems to infect me to some degree and I am working on dealing with. But also, because my back had developed a slight case of atrophy in the muscles that support my lower back.

I am hoping the exercise ball will help change that. If you’ve had experience in this and one of these has either worked or not worked for you, let me know in the comments what your personal experience was.
