Support Dave Walker.

July 26, 2008  |  Christianity  |

Thanks to ASBO Jesus for sharing this comic earlier today, I have added a new link to the Blogroll.  Dave Walker who was recently issued a “Cease and Desist” order for speaking out against a book chain called the SPCK.

When Christians stand up against what is wrong by themselves, they are usually kicked back down… but when many stand up they are usually heard.  I’ve not been abreast of the whole situation and I am curious to at least see the cartoons that inflamed this book chain into sending a “Cease and Desist”

If what they are doing is ethically and morally correct, then the cartoons (update:07-27-2008;  Actually these were articles, thanks for clearing that up in the comments Matt) would not have had the impact they were obviously having.

Oh, and if you are interesting in hearing more of the story or helping support Dave Walker.

  1. >I’ve not been abreast of the whole situation

You are slightly off beam here ;-)

It wasn’t the cartoons; it was the other articles.

In a nutshell, a long running mismanagement and industrial relations saga involving legal shenanigans, enforced contract changes, now potentially a lot of Unfair Dismissal cases and the loss over 2 years of a 200 year old chain of bookshops after a takeover that should have rejuvenated it.

Dave had reported the story in 75 posts, and has been Cease and Desisted – in the middle of the Lambeth Conference where he is very busy as Artist in Residence, just as the bookshop chain is being placed in bankruptcy in USA; it is a UK company.

Abstruse management saga becomes freedom of speech issue in middle of 3 weeks when press attention is focused on Lambeth Conference.

    Cue media fun. Hoepfully.

  2. Matt, Thanks for clearing that up. Since the posts were down, I wasn’t sure exactly what had been posted. Cartoons or posts, the idea is still the same. Something was said that irked them and now they want it quietly forgotten. ;) I sent a link to your update page over to Darren Rowse at Problogger because it also involved taking down a significant amount of posts on a blog because of the C&D. Hopefully, he might have some words to share on it too. I hope he does anyway.

Cue blogger outrage. More media fun. Oh, and I stumbled the page too. :)

  3. Can you drop me an email at mattwardman at gmail dot com.

    Thanks
