I spent the evening tweaking decloned to add a few new features and set it up more professionally than it has been in the past. Natively, it is set up to use several different plugins, but I may go ahead and release it into the public if there is enough interest.

I originally based the theme off of the Gluttony Theme by wpdesigner but it got a bit more altered in my take of it. The theme has 6 different widget locations… including the logo, the header ad placement, the three featured areas as well as the sidebar. I may add some to the footer as well. We’ll see…

Anyway, it was inspired by Hugh’s new theme (http://www.gapingvoid.com) after David Hayward told me about how he liked it and possibly wanted something like it for nakedpastor.

Today, I get to be in the other shoes of someone who is being featured on someone else’s blog. It’s a nice change.

My “Reach for Light” iphone (actually I use an ipod touch) drawing was featured at Just iPhone Art today. It’s weird, though since I only started doing iphone art using the iphone app, “brushes” just about two weeks ago. To be featured among some of the other amazing artists there is pretty cool. If anything, I have been using “brushes” as a means to play with conceptual pieces without really dragging around my laptop and wacom tablet. Besides, it fits better in my pocket and I don’t take up four seats at the coffee shop with just an ipod either.

Thanks for the feature Patrick.

Today has been an interesting day. I helped by dad with a recreation of the ten commandments for a VBS thing he is going to be in this coming week.

First off, stone tile was difficult to find in a stone tablet size. We bought the big 16-1/16th” tile and cut it in half. Oh no, we didn’t have a saw with a diamond blade to cut it with. I scored it with my dremel and broke it over a railroad tie to get the thing equally in half. Then we had to round the tops, so it looks like Charlton Heston stepped out of the “Ten Commandments” movie and handed us his prop.

Then, of course, someone wanted the letters carved into the tile. Tile isn’t meant for carving into. We figured that out trying to break it in half. I shouldn’t have even asked the dreaded question “What font do you want to use?”

Why did he have to choose a ‘Gothic Blackletter’ font?

We finally decided to recreate the Gothic font using charcoal and a do-it-yourself transfer paper (a piece of paper printed with the exact format on the front and charcoal over the back of the lettering on the reverse side). We bought and tried a t-shirt transfer sheet first, but that did not work at all. Apparently, t-shirt transfers only work on… well, t-shirts rather than tile.

So far it’s looking pretty good. We only have one tablet finished so far. We’ll do the other one tomorrow. I sent it home with my dad for homework. Maybe then, I’ll remember to take a picture of them to upload.

I don’t have too much to show yet on this painting. Mainly, the only thing I have down on the canvas right now is the background. As you can see in the following images, there are two layers thus far. This is a bit unlike many of my paintings that it is going to be so heavily layered with backgrounds and foreground. So far, I have been working with Acrylics and a 1″ brush.

The closer to the foreground I get, the brush will decrease in size and the thickness of the paint will become more pronounced. I don’t want to give away the final painting yet, but this will not be an abstract like I was originally planning. I need to bring in some income with this one, so it is something new that I have been researching. I see this painting enfolding in my head unlike any painting I’ve ever done before. I am really excited about it. I know it doesn’t look like too much yet, but I’ll keep updating with each layer so you can see the progress.

The white portion at the bottom in layer 1 was more texture than actual color to make the thinner paints near the bottom equal the same depth and texture as the thicker black and reds at the top. This is why I used two layers for this part of the background.

Layer 1

Layer 2

Today we wear them around our necks, gilded, gold, glistening remnants of a faith that has been mashed down into a sugar-coated lump of poisonous gelatin. It goes down easy and destroys eventually.

Living a life that Christ calls us to is dirty business. It requires us to grab hold of a cross, laden with the splinters of scorn and ridicule and confront the facade that entraps so many.

The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

When we embrace the cross we declare that our life is not our own and that it is forfeit to Christ, and in doing so are given life running over. Sure, it’s hard. Jesus didn’t say it would be easy.
