Quack!

quack

This little guy has been sitting on my desktop waiting to be introduced to the world.

I thought it was time.

After thinking about it, I decided he didn’t really have anything to say.  He’s a duck.  Let ducks do what ducks do best.

"Quack"

What I feel every time I go through the drive through.

drive thru rituals Call it a pet peeve, or something.  I really don’t know why it gets to me.  Maybe it’s the absolutely poor design of most drive through’s.

You see, when I pull into a drive through to get food I usually end up circling the restaurant at least once to get in line, once to get my food, and then usually one more time to leave the parking lot.  Three freaking times!

Maybe it’s a sacrifice of my now precious $3-a-gallon gasoline to the gods of fast food restaurants to bless them with prosperity?   I wish I had a real answer to the poor design of a fast food drive through.

um, I better go read a book or something…

Comic: A Commentary on Social Networking

Social Networking is pretty much the phase we’ve fallen into over the last few years.

We’ve generated tons of information on the ins and outs of facebook, myspace and others.  I’ve come to a conclusion.  While all these services are great, remember this….

Why Hugh is Hugh… is Gaping Void… is not me.

I must confess something today.

I’ve been a lurker over on Gaping Void for awhile now.

I guess what draws me most to the drawings of Hugh MacLeod isn’t that they are so amazingly good, because honestly they are fairly simple.  It’s the fact that they are original, very raw, and usually at lease make me smile and relate in some way.  Most of us are just jealous he gets away with it and that he thought of it first and would rather not be copycats by even trying…lol.

I have a friend who is a very influential blogger that I was asking recently about the direction of decloned.  He mentioned that I might want to possibly go in the direction of Gaping Void (or that "naked pastor guy, Dave").  This intrigued me.

So I started analyzing what Hugh is up to on Gaping Void.  In reality, he is simply sharing thoughts.   This is the raw idea of what blogging is all about.  But as Brian Clark pointed out recently, Hugh also uses his blog as a launching pad for other endeavors (such as working with Microsoft or Stormhoek or various speaking engagements).

So here it is I come down to the questions I must grapple with as I begin taking a personal blog that just existed because I wanted a place to write to a valid professional blog with a purpose.  What elements of other successful blogs can I model and yet still remain original?  What will I use my blog as a launching pad for?  Where will I go, what will I do, etc.. so on and so forth.

This are big questions that I don’t think I will be able to answer all at once, but I don’t think I need to.  Just draw, write and share.  Meanwhile, if you happen to want an objective, satirical perspective on your business endeavor with an occasional original cartoon every now and then, contact me to see if it’s something I might be interested in.  ;)

No wineries please (unless you give me free grapes for life).

The above cartoon is a reference to "Highlander" if you remember the tv show/movies…. another MacLeod reference.

running into dad

This morning we had our men’s breakfast with the some of the men from the church so I headed into town, and happened to get there a little earlier than usual.

At the restaurant, I happened to notice a familiar looking old dodge truck.  I parked beside it and went in.

My dad is the kind of guy who is quiet and reserved most of the time (unless you get him angry…lol).

Anyway, he has one of those beards going on that gives itself to all sorts of comic ideas, with an oversized mustache to match.  He’s a great guy, but somehow I always get a kick out of trying to draw different expressions of him as a cartoon.

For you, who close to you has that kind of face that just begs to be drawn up as a cartoon?

100 Things bloggers should know: #24

enemies

100 Things Bloggers should know: 22, 23

Both of these are inspired by my love of coffee, or rather wifi hotspots that spontaneously occur at coffee shops.

Either you can have someone browsing your music collection or possibly stealing your documents/images (the ones only meant to be shared with your spouse over your encrypted home network) or you have the guy at the counter who tells you ‘after’ you buy your coffee "oh yeah, you have a computer, right?  well, wifi is acting up today".  (by the way, the latter happened today)

I wanted to look at the guy and ask for a refund on my coffee.  I’ll go to another stinking coffee shop you freak.

Elf Ears Apparently.

In my last little comic (which was actually my first) I drew elf ears on the guy. This has been frustrating me, so I figured that they must somehow be required.
