Back in my days writing the art blog “Artist Hideout” with b5media, I did a lot of featuring of other artists. Today, I get to be in the other shoes of someone who is being featured on someone else’s blog. It’s a nice change.
My “Reach for Light” iphone (actually I use an ipod touch) drawing was featured at Just iPhone Art today. It’s weird, though since I only started doing iphone art using the iphone app, “brushes” just about two weeks ago. To be featured among some of the other amazing artists there is pretty cool. If anything, I have been using “brushes” as a means to play with conceptual pieces without really dragging around my laptop and wacom tablet. Besides, it fits better in my pocket and I don’t take up four seats at the coffee shop with just an ipod either.
Thanks for the feature Patrick.
This didn’t start out as a strawberry, but it became one… Maybe it’s an inner longing for a fruit of some kind. ooh, we have mandarin oranges….
Runs off to the fridge.

I will begin printing some of these soon. I think the size will eventually be either business card size or aceo. Iam leaning toward buisness card size. Exploring working on such an intuitive interface is a unique experience.

I only have been to the sea once. It was in Maine. One of those rocky coasts with a lighthouse and it was beautiful. It is a memory only tainted with the smell of dead fish rotting on the rocks and the cold climate. Either way, enjoy this little painting.

This is my second digital drawing using ‘brushes’ app for iPod touch. Getting better.
I drew this for my wonderful wife. Her favorite tree is a pine tree. As of today we have been together for five years since we first started dating.

I decided to get back into painting regularly. Tonight I painted a new watercolor peice called Tiger Lilly. I am starting a series of flowers. Not sure how many I’ll eventually do, but this is the first.

If you want to buy it, it’s available here.
I don’t have too much to show yet on this painting. Mainly, the only thing I have down on the canvas right now is the background. As you can see in the following images, there are two layers thus far. This is a bit unlike many of my paintings that it is going to be so heavily layered with backgrounds and foreground. So far, I have been working with Acrylics and a 1″ brush.
The closer to the foreground I get, the brush will decrease in size and the thickness of the paint will become more pronounced. I don’t want to give away the final painting yet, but this will not be an abstract like I was originally planning. I need to bring in some income with this one, so it is something new that I have been researching. I see this painting enfolding in my head unlike any painting I’ve ever done before. I am really excited about it. I know it doesn’t look like too much yet, but I’ll keep updating with each layer so you can see the progress.
The white portion at the bottom in layer 1 was more texture than actual color to make the thinner paints near the bottom equal the same depth and texture as the thicker black and reds at the top. This is why I used two layers for this part of the background.

Unlike a doctor or lawyer who employ their profession in medical firms or law firms where other members of their practice can collaborate or at least be in community with each other, Artists tend to be loners and prideful of their own work at times. Not all artists do this, but many. The nature of creating is that you are putting out on the canvas or sculture something that is personal, real and somewhat subjective.
In a law or doctor’s office, it’s either right or wrong.
The best way that we see the idea of “The Practice” working in Art is with Galleries or in the Art blogging community. There we can be free to share our work with critique from those who would dare to read or be drawn in to the work itself.
But all of this is done without a real plan usually.
Maybe if we begin to see our sketchbooks as medical journals, we will realize how important they are.
Maybe if we see each painting, drawing or sculpture as a case on which the rest of our work may be defined, we will work with more abandon to accomplish the vision of our work.
